Good stuff: It was clean, freshly painted and bed was comfortable. I liked having a TV and drink making facilities.
Bad stuff: The decor, the shabby old bathroom, noise due to single glazed windows, poor standard of breakfast, not very cheerful staff.
Overall: This is over priced for what you get. The whole hotel needs modernising. I liked the fact the room was clean and in good decorative order. What I wasn't happy about was the condition of the bathroom including chunks missing on the veneer of the bath, unable to get any sleep in a front facing room becasue single glazed metal windows so I could hear every sound outside and very poor quality breakfast with no hot food, fruit or wholemeal bread or cereal - not a good start to my day. I felt there was no attention to detail, no modernisation except a lick of paint and TV and lack of service or consideration towards guests - in this day and age I would expect more from a central London location.

Good stuff: The hotel was ideally placed to be nearby to all essential amenities but not as near to intrude on the peace of the locale.
Bad stuff: The hotel would greatly benefit from a complete overhaul as most of the fixtures and fittings, whilst working, were pretty archaic and not what I would have expected from one of the Capital's hotels.
Overall: The suite that we were placed in (Room No.11) was badly in need of a good clean and whilst the furniture in the lounge was of a fine standard (better than I would have expected), the cushions supplied with the furniture were disgusting ! So much so, that we had to remove them and place them in the cupboards so that the stink would not effect us too much during our stay. I am disappointed that there appears to be no quality control of the cleaning regime within the hotel and I'm afraid that I would not consider a return to the Astor unless major renovation work was carried out.

Good stuff: Good location within walking distance of many restaurents, shopping, Tube, etc. The room was spacy.
Bad stuff: The price was a bit too high for the standard, but not critical.
Overall: A nice hotel in a good location, but a bit worn down, so the price should have been lower.

Bad stuff: Room was far to hot and we couldn't control the heating.
Overall: Really good location and cheap for what you get. If you want somewhere that's clean and affordable, then this is the place to stay.

Good stuff: The beds are actually in an alcove and you have some lovely space for a table and a couple of chairs.
Bad stuff: The overall condition of the hotel is not up to the best standard. But it is fine.
