Overall: As above, my family eberything very hospitable. Clean and service of a high standard. The grandchildren have stayed in a few hotels in London and I have asked them how they liked it Their reply was 'It was the best'

Good stuff: Good breakfast. Friendly staff.
Bad stuff: Poor shower. Broken shower handle. Dodgy electrical socket. The surcharge for using a credit card is very regretable.
Overall: Everything was adequate and the location was useful.

Good stuff: Generally good hotel and value for money
Early booking in time and luggage room were very useful to get rid of bags while looking around London.
Bad stuff: No bar
Disappointing breakfast
Overall: Overall our stay was enjoyable and good value for money. The location of the hotel was very good, just a couple of minutes walk to King's Cross Station allowed easy access to the rest of London. The room was adequate although could possibly become a bit cramped if you have a lot of luggage and are staying for a long period of time. It was useful to have a safe in the room for leaving valuables in. The shower wasn't brilliant, it took quite a long time to heat up and was a bit like showering under a tap. There was no shelf to put soap on or hook to hang towel on. Breakfast was a bit of a disappointment. We had to wait until there was enough room to sit down, and then when there was there was not much food out at the time. We had to wait for clean knifes and clean glasses and toast to be brought out so by the time we got to eat the food it was cold. Perhaps serving breakfast until a later time would reduce the number of people trying to eat a the same time. The luggage room was a very useful facility although some higher level of security would provide peace of mind. We literally just walked in off the street and asked for the key to the room, no questions asked. We could have been asked our name and what room number we had been staying in to at least check that we had been booked into the hotel.

Good stuff: My stay was hassle-free, everyone at the hotel was polite.
Bad stuff: The hotel did not provide a remote control for the television, and there is no in-room phone to have contact with the front desk.
Overall: My double room was equipped with another bed, therefore 3 could sleep in the room. But for me travelling alone, it only crowded the room unnecessarily. I think a small desk would have been better -- though I understand the extra bed gives the hotel the most options for renting the room. All in all, for a low priced (for London) en suite hotel arrangement, I would stay again at the California Hotel.

Good stuff: Decent breakfast in the morning, beds reasonably comfortable.
Bad stuff: Poor shower, no soap or toiletries in room, evacuation information missing, no sound insulation.
Overall: The hotel is well situated close to Kings Cross Station and to the venue for the convention we were attending at the Quaker Meeting House on Euston Road. The staff at reception were welcoming when we turned up and quite helpful with requests for information. We did need information as it turned out that the facilities in the room were very basic. A safe, tiny TV (with no remote) and a kettle with limited tea and coffee and that was it. No soap, shower gel or any other toiletries in the bathroom so we had to go buy hand soap and some other things as we hadn't expected to need anything. The water pressure in the shower was awful and the shower head obviously designed for those under 5 foot tall. The decor of the public areas of the hotel make up for the sparceness of the rooms and there is quite a nice lounge selling decent coffee for a pound a time. Breakfast consisted of a decent hot buffet with baked beans, sausages, bacon, tinned tomatoes, toast and poached eggs. Plenty of orange juice available and I think there was cereal as well though I didn't notice it. Only problem was getting any of the staff to notice you when you sat down so that you could get some coffee! I went without on one morning. Basically, it has both good and bad points and they definitely could do a little more to make the rooms more comfortable. There is a Novotel and a Travel Lodge just along Euston Road so next time I'm down I might be tempted to try to get a bit more for my money but on the whole I'd use this place again if I was on a budget.
