Reviews of Hansom Cab Pub in Earls Court London

This restored Victorian pub on the corner of Earls Court Road and Pembroke Road is a perfect example of how a gastro-pub should be done.

It's kept the homely touch, courtesy of the glowing open fire and the equally warm service, while the chilled-out music and North African lounge area add a somewhat exotic feel. Many of the original 19th-century fittings have been retained.

Gas lanterns (now with bulbs), which compliment the subtle spotlighting on the ceiling and add to the general cosiness of the place. All this disparate decor melds together better than you'd imagine, and it's clearly a hit with the locals judging by the first-name basis they're on with the bar staff.

Beer And Wine At Reasonable Prices For The Area

There's an impressive array of beverages, especially when it comes to the beers. Everything from Guinness to Leffe, to Strawberry Fruli on draught. A cosmopolitan range of wines are also available from afar afield as Chile and New Zealand, and will set you back between 10 andn 20 pounds.

Food

The food's a mixture of both modern English and Continental dishes, with Mediterranean styles featuring heavily. It's fairly well priced (for the area), with a meal for two likely to cost between £15-£20, plus drinks. If you're around on a Saturday, stay for the resident DJ's performance: a great rock/soul set that gets everyone up on their feet.
